How to Win Solitaire

Practical strategies to raise your win rate across Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, and other solitaire variants — without spoiling the fun.

Solitaire mixes skill and luck. You can’t win every deal, but a few habits measurably raise your odds. These are the moves that matter most, game by game.

The golden rules

Uncover face-down cards before touching the stock. Keep a foundation card available as a landing spot. And avoid auto-moving every Ace — sometimes a buried card is worth more than an early foundation point.

Per-game win habits

In Klondike, prioritize tableau reveals. In Spider, protect empty columns and clean suits. In FreeCell, keep at least one free cell open. In Pyramid and Golf, work from the bottom rows to unlock cards above.

Use hints and undo to learn

Hints show a legal move; undo lets you compare two plans. Used as learning tools — not autopilot — they build the pattern memory that turns hard deals into wins.
